BREAKING: Buhari nominates Aregbesola as Minister

By Jamiu Ganiyu

President Muhammadu has nominated the immediate past Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The name of Osun former Governor was among the list of other ministerial nominees sent by President Buhari to the Senate for confirmation in line with the provisions of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The announcement was done at today’s plenary by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan. By the virtue of the nomination, Aregbesola has taken the slot of his State, Osun, and put an end to a intense lobbying that has trailed the position.

Several sources had reported the interest of immediate past Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole and a Deputy Governor of the State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Adewole was said to rely on his performance, contact and the relationship he has garnered in Abuja during the first term of Buhari’s administration. Senator Iyiola Omisore on the other hand believed his group should be compensated for the role they played during the last year governorship election and that of the general elections.

However, Aregbesola had the support of the party from Osun who recently wrote a recommendation letter to the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, for onward transmission to the President, appealing for Aregbesola to fill the state’s ministerial slot. The letter was signed by all members of the State Working Committee of the party.
