The management of Osun State University Teaching Hospital, UNIOSUNTH, Osogbo, has denied plans to privatise any department of the hospital, describing the proposed arrangement as a Public-Private Partnership, PPP, aimed at improving service delivery.
In a rejoinder issued on Friday, the management said the aim of the partnership was to strengthen the hospital capacity, provide modern equipment, ensure steady availability of reagents and consumables and ultimately improve patient care.
The management explained that the PPP was duly approved by the Osun State Government and was not intended to sell off any department.
It added that the model is already in use in leading Teaching Hospitals in Ife, Ibadan and across the country, and assured that the hospital’s Laboratory will continue to be functional.
On workers’ welfare, management said no staff would be sacked or displaced as a result of the PPP.
“Instead, the partnership will create more opportunities for training, better working tools and improved service conditions. Staff welfare remains paramount to this Management,” it stated.
The management appealed to JAC not to shut down the hospital, warning that industrial action would only inflict hardship on our patients who are mostly the less privileged.
“We assure the good people of Osun State that UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital remains fully opened and committed to providing quality, affordable and uninterrupted healthcare services,” the statement concluded.
