Outrage has trailed a viral video showing the elder brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Dr. Deji Adeleke, and former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, inside a private aircraft.
The video, which surfaced on social media at the weekend, captured both men in a relaxed mood on board the jet, exchanging pleasantries.
Though the purpose and destination of the trip were not disclosed, the footage has stirred heated debate among members of the APC in Osun.
The development, which comes at a sensitive time for the party still reeling from its defeat in the August 15 governorship election, had members questioning the commitment of the former national scribe to the party.
osun.life reports that Omisore, who was disqualified alongside six other aspirants from contesting the last election, lost his home base to the Accord Party in the poll.
Some members of the APC noted that Omisore’s conduct before and during the August election contributed to the party’s loss.
They accused the former lawmaker of working for the victory of Governor Adeleke in retaliation for his disqualification by the party.
The accusation was further intensified days after the poll when the governor’s brother paid a surprise visit to Omisore at his campaign office in Osogbo to celebrate his birthday with him.
Since the video emerged, Senator Omisore, who is one of the most influential chieftains of the APC in Osun, has come under severe criticism, with some party faithful describing his appearance with the Adeleke family as insensitive and unbecoming of a party leader.
Members of the party, particularly those loyal to the IleriOluwa caucus led by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, have been most vocal in their condemnation.
An APC member wrote on his Facebook page, “It is now clear where Senator Omisore belongs. You cannot claim to be a leader of the APC and be seen frolicking with the family of the sitting PDP governor. It is an act of betrayal.”
Another member of the party argued that the newfound closeness between Omisore and the Adelekes would not last.
According to him, the relationship is driven by personal interest and will soon collapse once that interest is no longer served.
However, supporters of the former deputy governor have defended him, arguing that the video should not be politicised.
They maintained that as an elder statesman, Omisore is free to relate with anyone irrespective of party affiliation and that such interaction does not amount to anti-party activity.
