2026: PDP will field candidate, win election – Party hits back at Accord chair

By Tunde Olamilekan

The Taminu-Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has slammed the state chapter of the Accord Party over a statement attributed to its chairman, Mr Victor Akande, concerning the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

osun.life reports that Akande, on Wednesday, during a programme in Osogbo, said the PDP will have no candidate in the August 08, gubernatorial poll.

However, a statement by the caretaker secretary of the PDP, Bamidele Seyi-Abiola, a copy obtained by osun.life, said the statement by the Accord Party chairman was a mere fallacy, and a desperate attempt to gain relevance where none exists.

Seyi-Abiola through the statement, said, the PDP remained the strongest, most organised, and most widely accepted political party in Osun State.

The statement read: “The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State Chapter, has been drawn to Pastor
Victor Akande, alleging that the PDP will not present a candidate in the August 8, 2026, gubernatorial election.

“We wish to state categorically that this claim is a mere fallacy, unfounded, and a desperate attempt to gain relevance where none exists.

“The PDP remains the strongest, most organised, and most widely accepted political party in
Osun State, with structures firmly in place across all wards, local governments, and constituencies. Our preparations for the 2026 governorship election are ongoing, strategic, and
robust.

“It is therefore laughable for a party with negligible presence in Osun politics to attempt to dictate
the political future of the PDP. Such statements only expose the anxiety and fear of those who are
already unsettled by the growing strength and unity of our party.

“We assure our teeming members, supporters, and the good people of Osun State that the PDP will
not only present a credible candidate, but will also contest and win the 2026 gubernatorial election convincingly.

“We advise the Accord Party and its leadership to focus on building their own party rather than
engaging in political hallucinations.”
