The State of Osun House of Assembly will today cut short its annual recess and reconvene for plenary activities.
In a notice sent to Honourable Members, a copy which was sighted by osun.life, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Maruf Olanrewaju, disclosed that the Amotekun bill issue is the major reason for reconvening the house.
The Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, had last week confirmed the receipt of the Amotekun Bill from the executive.
The draft bill which has been passed by the Ekiti State House of Assembly is currently receiving attention from other State Assemblies of the South West region.
The Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) bill became neccesary after the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, described Operation Amotekun as illegal, adding that his office was not consulted before the governors launched the initiative.
Recall that following increased killings and kidnappings in the South-West, the governors of the six states in the region launched Operation Amotekun on January 9, 2020 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to provide security for the people within the region.
Members of the State of Osun House of Assembly are expected to deliberate on the Amotekun Bill upon presentation for first reading on Monday, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye has also promised to hold a public hearing to get input of critical stakeholders before the bill will be passed.
