The Osun State Government has held a sensitisation meeting for transport operators on the implementation of the Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Law, 2026.
The programme, organised by the Ministry of Transportation, was aimed at educating commercial drivers, riders, vehicle owners, park managers and transport union leaders on the new law and how it will end multiple taxation and illegal collections.
Speaking at the event held on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olumide Taiwo, said the law was not meant to punish operators but to build a transparent, organised and technology-driven transport system.
He said the law makes provision for registration of all commercial vehicles and operators, use of approved parks, proper number plates, roadworthiness and better traffic control.
Taiwo added that enforcement would be supported by technology such as QR codes, NFC credentials, digital payment receipts, CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR).
He explained that the Daily Operation Levy would now be based on verified operations, meaning drivers would only pay for days their vehicles actually work commercially.
On revenue administration, the Acting Chairman of the Osun Internal Revenue Service, Solanke Hamzat, said the new system aligns with the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025, which prioritises simplicity, transparency and eradication of multiple taxation.
According to Hamzat, the digital system will block leakages and stop duplication of tickets by illegal collectors.
He assured operators that once they pay and get digital receipts, no tout or illegal collector can harass them for further payment.
He also reminded operators that the law is already operational, as commercial vehicle owners are required to register within 60 days of assent by the Governor.
