The lawmaker representing Osun West Senatorial District, Lere Oyewumi, has flagged off the construction of a 1.8-kilometre Adebisi Sawmill Express-Oduduwa-Anajere-Oke Olufi-Sekere Ayo-Sanngo road in Ikire.
The road, which was flagged off in the presence of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community members, according to the lawmaker, marked the start of his focus on governance and grassroots development.
Addressing residents, Oyewumi expressed gratitude to Ikire people for their support during the last election despite intimidation, harassment, and voter suppression.
“The era of political campaigning is over. My focus now is on effective governance, grassroots development, and fulfilling my legislative mandate to improve the living standards of our people,” he said.
The Senator said the road project is aimed at boosting socio-economic activities, easing transit, and enhancing security in the area.
He pledged that the completed road would be fitted with solar-powered street lights to improve visibility and security at night.
Oyewumi also promised the immediate provision and installation of a new electricity transformer for the Oduduwa community to address power supply challenges.
He urged residents, business owners, and motorists to cooperate with the contractors during the construction period.
