Don’t copy anybody, obey your creator, APC chieftain tells youths at 91

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and a member of the elder caucus of the party in Osun State, Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, has urged Nigerian youths to shun copycat lifestyles and build their lives on discipline, faith, and hard work.

Oyedokun gave the advice on Thursday during the celebration of his 91st birthday and the Lifetime Achievement &
Peace Ambassador Award, which was conferred on him by the Council of American Peace Advocates (CAPA).

The event, which had in attendance dignitaries including former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in the state, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Emeritus Professor Olu Aina, also the launch of his book titled, A Peace Memoir”.

Others in attendance include the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin, lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon Wole Oke and deputy governorship candidate of the APC in Osun, Mr Benjamin Adereti.

Oyedokun, who is a former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), expressed concern over rising moral decline among youths.

“Some people will say, ‘I want to live as Shuaib Oyedokun, but they don’t know what Shuaib Oyedokun has gone through.

“So just have your own plan and follow it. Don’t copy anybody. Just obey the rules of your Creator.

“Youths should live as human beings. Younger ones are becoming wayward. They don’t obey parental guardians. They don’t follow the religious tenets. They don’t learn any trade. They just stumble into society and live like that,” he stated.

The nonagenarian charged the youths to seek mentorship from people of character.

“They have to learn and be mentees to some people who have integrity and live a noble life,” Oyedokun advised.

Earlier in his remarks, former governor Oyinlola, who said Oyedokun was his mentor, described the celebrant as a politician who is always after the development of his people.

“Baba Oyedokun happens to be my own mentor. He was the one in 2001 who welcomed me into the Peoples Democratic Party. He is a shining example of an experienced politician who wants the development of his people at all times,” Oyinlola stated.
