The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has faulted the extension of the tenure of the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, UNIOSUN, describing it as a breach of the Universities Miscellaneous Act and the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of ASUU’s Emergency National Executive Council, NEC, meeting held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Comrade Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja.
The communiqué, signed by ASUU President, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, said the Visitor to the University, Governor Ademola Adeleke, extended the VC’s tenure by two years without following due process.
ASUU NEC said the action of the Visitor amounted to a “flagrant violation” of both the law and the agreement signed with the Federal Government.
Consequently, the union mandated the UNIOSUN Branch to “go back and mobilise the Branch to rise and respond courageously to the flagrant violation of the Miscellaneous Act as amplified in the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement.”
To further press the matter, NEC resolved to constitute a Visitation Team to the Osogbo campus within two weeks.
The team is expected to meet with the University Administration, Governing Council and the Visitor to the University.
