Osun PDP rallies supporters, says Tribunal judgment is appalling

By Jamiu Ganiyu

The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has called on its members and supporters in the state not to be deterred by the verdict of the election petition tribunal which nullified the elections of three of its lawmakers in the state.

The opposition party enjoined her members most especially in the affected constituencies to be civil in their reactions and not to take laws into their hands assuring them the appellate court would right the wrongs committed by the tribunal.

In a release signed by the state chairman of the party, Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo, a copy which was made available to osun.life, the opposition party chairman in Osun likened the tribunal verdict with what happened on July 5th, 2019 against the mandate of the party’s candidate Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke in the September 22nd, 2018 governorship tussle at the Supreme Court.

Adagunodo said, “that yesterday’s judgment is another failed attempt by the ruling party to gag the people and impose their candidates on the people of Osun State at all levels of governance, not only in Osun but in the whole country at large.”

The Osun PDP chairman said, the same tribunal that also delivered judgment in favour of the only petition against the APC candidate in Ifelodun State constituency by the PDP in Osun State out of 26 state constituencies despite obvious contravention of the constitutional provision of being eligible to vote and be voted for by the APC candidate who is not a registered voter in the state is a clear indication that the ruling party is not ready to tolerate the opposition party, no matter how insignificant it may be.”

Adagunodo expressed shock and reiterated that the politics of annihilation being practiced by APC in Osun State is undemocratic but expressed hope that the party will pursue all the cases to the Appeal court but implore the judiciary to discharge its duties conscientiously without bias so that its position as the last hope of the masses will not be seen as being compromised.”

In the same vein, the honourable representing Obokun State constituency, Honourable Adewumi Adeyemi whose election was also nullified by the tribunal and ordered rerun in four polling units said the irregularities in the judgment are being studied by his legal teams.

He was however confident that his initial victory at the poll was given by God through the people can never be stolen.

Adewumi assured that his victory is sacrosanct and that the temporary setback would not distract him from the life-impacting programmes he has been doing in his constituency.
