The National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) has stated that it could only throw its weight behind a party that is more concerned about the welfare of the citizens in the state as it denies speculation that the association had endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola.

This was made known in a release signed and made available on social media by the National President of NAOSS, Adeyemo  Wakeel, on Monday.

Wakeel said that the association was not a political group and would not mortgage the interests of its members for political affiliation, noting that the association would only go for a party that would help ameliorate the hardship students in the state owned tertiary institutions were subjected to.

The release read in part, “The attention of the executive has been drawn to a well spread speculations and rumour that the leadership of the national headquarters of National Association of Osun State students,  which represent the interest of all Osun state students both home and in diaspora has endorsed Alh. Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, the APC flagbearer for the September 22nd governorship election.

“The association under the leadership of Com. Adeyemo Hakeem Alake did  not in any way endorse any candidate for the gubernatorial election in the state and in the next few days, through our leadership will make known the position of the association and the candidate fit to occupy the number one seat in the state.

“The association is apolitical, and the welfarism of her members is the top priority.

“The association shall support, endorse and mobilise for any candidate from any party who is of good integrity, untinted antecedent and must be willing to make the interest and welfare of the students as top concern in terms of provision of bursary, scholarship, increased budget for education sector, reduction in the high cost of school fees in our various tertiary institution, provision of amenities and first grades school equipments for the state own institution, and in particular must be willing to pay workers salaries and entitlements as at when due, must be willingly to respond to the demand of the students.”
