Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, raised eyebrows as he missed out on what was supposed to be the final Osun-Osogbo festival under his watch, although he was duly represented, the grande finale of the annual Osun-Osogbo festival, held on Friday the 17th of August, 2018.
This indeed fell short of a chunk’s expectations as the governor, who is riding the crest of the last quarter of his administration, holds a record of never attending the international festival ever since he ascended the government.
It is also noteworthy that Aregbesola, who is a muslim by religion, is well known for visiting the holy land, Mecca for his lesser hajj, Umrah, some fortnight before the two islamic festivals, which most of the time, holds in the same period as the Osun-Osogbo festival – perhaps some days interval – and would only return to the state often on the eve of the festival or on the day of the festival. A tradition he has been consistent with ever since he got to power.
However, in retrospect, Aregbesola rode to power on the back of majority of the Osogbo people and in some quarters, it is believed that the much of the votes, which catapulted the Ilesha-administrator to power came from Osogbo, leaving a very big question mark on whether the governor prides the pride of his loyal supporters.
