A 32-year-old man, Ajibola Olalekan and a 30-year-old man, Tafa Taofeeq have been arraigned before an Osun Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Monday, 25th June 2018, for allegedly smoking weed (Indian Hemp) and causing public disturbance.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Temitope Fatoba, informed the court that the accused persons who committed the offence with others at large on the 23rd day of June, 2017 at about 1600 hrs at Egbatedo Ita Lokan, Italogun and Gbemu junction, did conspire among themselves to commit offence to wit: conduct likely to cause breach of peace thereby committing an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 51 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
Sergeant Fatoba further explained that Ajibola Olalekan and Tafa Taofeeq on the same date, time, and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by smoking weed (indian hemp) and causing public disturbance, thereby committing an offence contrary to and publishable under Section 249 (d) of the Criminal code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
However, the accused persons, Ajibola Olalekan and Tafa Taofeeq, during a plea, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.
The Defense Counsel, Mr. Okobe Najite, told the court to take cogizance of the fact that the two accused persons come to court regularly without missing any of the court cases, and that the police should further look into other accused at large. He then appealed to the court to grant them normal bail because their aged fathers and mothers are present in Court. He also stated that the Police command should investigate the case thoroughly and visit the NDLEA office for proper confirmation.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Oloyade however adjourned the case to July 30, 2018.
