Oduduwa Varsity disowns ‘cultist’ students

Authorities of the Oduduwa University at Ipetumodu (OUI) in Osun State have disowned four students in detention at Ilesha prison for alleged possession of firearms and membership of a prohibited secret cult group.

A statement by OUI said the suspects had ceased to be students of the institution since June, last year.

The four suspects were arrested over possession illegal of fire arms and cultism had claimed to be students of the university.

According to a statement by the institution, OUI has zero tolerance for cultism, hence the need to expel the suspected students after they were indicted for allegedly causing atrocities in the institution.

The statement said authorities of OUI set up a committee for sustenance of peace within the institution and its environs due to the closeness of the university to a motor park.

It said: “The university is keen to the provision of security on the campus and secured the combined service of men of the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to maintain peace and order in the university.

OUI added: “In the nine years’ history of the university, it has never recorded any case of cultism, violence as well as students’ unrest and that the university has put measure in place to test the character of every applicant before being admitted into the Ivory Tower.
