The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of backing armed thugs behind Monday’s deadly attack in Ikire, headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo, Chairman of the Osun APC Media Cluster, Oluwafunsho Fagbohungbe, alleged that five people were killed at Naira and Kobo Junction during a violent attempt to forcefully take over transport hubs in the town.
He said three commercial drivers and two passersby were shot dead, while police officers who responded to a distress call were assaulted. Fagbohungbe claimed service rifles were also snatched from the officers by suspected hoodlums aligned with the Accord Party.
“As we speak, Ikire has been turned into a theatre of bloodshed by armed thugs openly aligned with the Accord Party and operating under the political umbrella of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration,” he said.
Fagbohungbe further alleged that the violence was coordinated by Senator Lere Oyewumi, Deputy Senate Minority Leader, and other identified field commanders including T. Banson, Soskid and Ayewo.
“This was not a mere street brawl. It was a calculated, armed attack on public safety and constitutional authority,” Fagbohungbe stated, adding that Governor Adeleke had abdicated his constitutional oath by failing to rein in state-linked thugs.
The party called on the Inspector General of Police, the AIG Zone 11, and the Osun Commissioner of Police to immediately deploy operatives to reclaim Ikire, secure council secretariats, and recover stolen weapons. It also demanded the arrest of Senator Oyewumi and the named suspects.
