The Accord Party in Osun State has condemned the fatal shooting which occurred on Monday morning in Ikire, accusing the Divisional Police Officer of Irewole Division, Mr Bamidele Olatona, of opening fire on unarmed civilians.
The party, in a statement signed by its chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, said two people, including a commercial bus driver, Saheed Akinrole, and an innocent passenger, were killed in the incident.
Akande noted that there was no crisis or conflict at the park at the time of the shooting.
The party accused the DPO of acting in an unprofessional and unprovoked manner, describing the incident as “an absolute disgrace to the Nigeria Police Force.”
“The normal park operation was ongoing when the DPO launched the attacks,” the statement read.
Akande alleged that the latest incident was part of a pattern of conduct in Irewole Local Government which started during the pre-election period.
Accord called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Osun State Police Command, and the Police Service Commission to “take immediate action by ordering the prompt arrest, psychological evaluation, dismissal, and criminal prosecution of DPO Bamidele Olatona.”
