Tension in Osun as touts, northerners clash in Ile-Ife

There was palpable tension in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Wednesday’s morning, as some touts allegedly clashed with some northerners, leading to pandemonium and destruction of properties at Sabo area, Daily Trust gathered.

The detail of the cause of the crisis could not be ascertained at the time of filing these reports as the situation remained tensed and one person was said to have been shot dead and one house razed at Oluwogbe Street at Ilare around Sabo area.

The Senior Special Assistant to Osun State Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola on Arewa Matter, Imam Muhammed Basir said the situation has taken a very dangerous dimension and called on security agencies to intervene.

Basir said he has notified Governor Aregbesola and the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fimihan Adeoye as well as the Director of the Department of State Security Service (DSS).

Basir told Daily Trust that one person was shot dead but sources in Ile-Ife said no fewer than three persons have been killed. Basir said the situation was beyond the Divisional Police Station and called on the CP to deploy more policemen from Osogbo, the state capital.

The acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Muhammed Abubakar Koji while speaking through the Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO) SP Folasade Odoro said necessary steps have been taken and that mobile policemen have been deployed to Ile-Ife.
