Residents and commuters of Mogaji Isokan area in Iwo, Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State, have appealed to the state government to urgently reconstruct the river bridge in the community after it was submerged following heavy downpour on Saturday.
The bridge was cordoned off on Sunday morning after the river overflowed its banks and covered the entire bridge, making it impassable for motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians.
The situation reportedly worsened as part of the bridge later collapsed, making it completely inaccessible for residents and motorists.
According to residents, the incident left many people stranded and affected business activities, school movement and daily life in the area.
They lamented that the major cause of the constant overflow is the small size of the existing bridge, which can no longer contain the volume of water during heavy rainfall.
