A man, Kazeem Ayoola, was remanded at the Ilesa Prison in Osun State yesterday by a magistrate’s court in Osogbo, the state capital,  for killing his 85-year-old mother, Mrs. Taibat Ayoola, whom he said made life difficult for him while alive.

“My mother is responsible for all my misfortunes. I built three houses and burnt two because of her. I always felt like destroying things whenever she was around me. On that day, mummy came to meet me in my farm and started irritating me as usual. I decided to kill her so that I could have peace of mind,” he said.

The police prosecutor, Corporal Badmus, told the court that Kazeem killed his mother on February 10, 2017 in a village near Osu, the headquarters of Atakumosa West Local Government Area of the state.

Corporal Badmus said the offence was punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol II Laws of Osun State.

Kazeem was not represented by any lawyer,  and his plea was not taken, but when he was allowed to speak, he said his mother was making life difficult for him and was relieved after killing her.  The presiding judge, Magistrate Habibat Basiru, ordered that he be remanded in prison and adjourned the case till March 15, 2017.
