The Osun State Government has designated every Thursday as Environmental Sanitation Day to curb indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other environmental violations.
The directive was contained in a press release issued Tuesday by the Chairman of the Environmental Sanitation Task Force in Osogbo.
The Task Force said the sanitation exercise will hold every Thursday between 8:00 am and 10:00 am.
According to the release, markets, shops, malls, offices and other business premises are to be cleaned up during the period.
“All market operators, shop owners, artisans and business premises owners are expected to be physically present during the scheduled time for environmental sanitation of their premises to ensure strict compliance with this directive,” the statement read.
It clarified that the presence of law enforcement agents during the exercise is to complement the efforts of market operators and shop owners in cleaning the environment and not to arrest anyone.
