Accord leaders question Adeleke’s loyalty over Tinubu campaign role

Leaders of the Accord Party in Lagos State have questioned the loyalty of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, over his reported appointment as coordinator of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.

Adeleke won the Osun governorship election on the platform of Accord, a victory the leaders described as a significant milestone for the party and its members.

The leaders – Oke Sewedo, a party leader in Lagos West Senatorial District, and Oladeji Oluwatosin, the Lagos State Accord chairman,
said the outcome had strengthened their belief that the party could provide a credible platform for political development, good governance and national transformation.

However, they said the governor’s reported involvement in coordinating Tinubu’s campaign had raised questions about his loyalty to Accord and the protection of its electoral interests.

In a letter, the leaders asked, “How can a sitting governor elected under Accord simultaneously coordinate the presidential campaign of a candidate belonging to another political party, while Accord itself is preparing its candidates and supporters for the same general election?”

They warned that the development could weaken the party’s chances, particularly in Osun, where its candidates would be contesting for Senate, House of Representatives and other legislative seats.

They added that conflicting political signals could create uncertainty among voters and erode the confidence of members who had invested resources and time in building the party.

The leaders stressed that their concerns were not driven by personal animosity or disrespect, but by the need for elected officials to remain accountable to the platforms that brought them to power.

They urged Adeleke to clarify his political position, demonstrate commitment to Accord if he remains a member, or take appropriate steps in line with the party’s constitution if his allegiance has shifted.

The Lagos leaders also called on Accord’s national leadership to urgently address the matter, explain its implications, and put measures in place to protect the party’s candidates at all levels.

They said the issue goes beyond Osun, noting that uncertainty among senior figures could discourage grassroots members and undermine Accord’s credibility as an alternative political platform ahead of 2027.
