Heavy rainfall: Bridge collapses in Osun community, residents cry out

Residents of Iludun Community in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State, have appealed to the state government to urgently intervene following the collapse of a bridge linking the community.

According to the residents, the bridge, which serves as a vital route for thousands of residents, farmers, traders and motorists, collapsed after a heavy downpour, disrupting movement and threatening other infrastructure in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the community, the Baale of Iludun, Chief Isiaka Oyedokun, described the situation as an emergency that requires immediate government attention.

Chief Oyedokun stated that the collapse has cut off access for residents and could worsen if the rains continue, leading to flooding, erosion and further damage to roads and drainage facilities.

He appealed to the relevant authorities to conduct an immediate assessment of the affected areas and take steps to restore safe access.

“The collapsed bridge is a vital route for thousands of residents, farmers, traders, motorists, and other road users. Its condition has disrupted movement within the community, while continued rainfall could worsen the damage,” the Baale said.

The community leader also warned residents and road users to exercise extreme caution around the collapsed bridge and other affected areas.

The community demanded immediate technical assessment of the bridge, urgent reconstruction and rehabilitation, installation of safety barriers and warning signs, repairs to damaged roads and drainages, and measures to control erosion and flooding.
