Three people were killed and 20 others injured on Saturday in a head-on collision at Tonkere, along the Ife-Ilesa expressway in Osun State.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Corps Commander Sunday Adebayo, confirmed the accident, noting that the crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a black Volkswagen Golf car.
According to him, the deceased included two females and one male.
Adebayo disclosed that 23 persons were in the Hiace bus, comprising 11 females, nine males, and three children — two boys and one girl.
“Three people died. Altogether, we have about 20 others who were injured in the crash. All the other 20 sustained different degrees of injury,” the Sector Commander stated.
He added that victims with minor injuries were treated and discharged, while the vehicles involved have been towed to a police station in Ife.
The Sector Commander attributed the crash to excessive speeding and dangerous driving.
“Nigerians need to change their attitudes on the road. Excessive speeding is killing. The accident happened due to overspeeding and dangerous driving,” Adebayo said.
