The chairman of the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Ibukun Fadipe Ibukun has debunked allegations that the state government was collecting illegal levies in public primary schools across the state.
In a statement on Saturday, the SUBEB boss described the reports circulating in some quarters regarding the illegal fee as “baseless misinformation”.
Fadipe maintained that the state’s policy on free education remains “total and non-negotiable”. He challenged anyone with evidence of unauthorised collections to come forward with proof of payment.
“The government is working tirelessly to ensure that education is free and accessible for every child in Osun State,” Fadipe stated.
“There is no directive from this board or the state government authorising the collection of any fees from pupils, and we challenge anyone with receipts of such transactions to present them for immediate investigation,” he added.
The SUBEB Chairman clarified that the only administrative fee currently in place is the Education Trust Levy (ETL), a legacy policy carried over from earlier administrations.
