Operatives of the Osun State Police Command have rescued fifteen young persons who were victims of suspected human trafficking syndicate.
According to a statement by the command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, the victims were rescued during a coordinated and intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID).
Ojelabi said officers of the command who acted on credible information, rescued the victims from traffickers who had allegedly deceived them with false promises of employment and better living opportunities outside their home Countries.
He added that preliminary investigations reveal that, the victims were being transported to Nigeria from Togo, Benin Republic and Niger and kept inside a three-bedroom flat at Adeleke Estate, Osogbo under suspicious circumstances before the intervention of the Police.
The statement further said the command is on the trail of the suspect(s) connected to the criminal act, adding that the agent who gave out the house used to lodge the victims has been arrested.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to combating human trafficking and other forms of organised crime.
