The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Thursday, announced the launch of Operation Go Cashless, a new initiative aimed at eliminating cash transactions at its airports.
The initiative would begin with Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, according to the agency.
A statement by the management of FAAN noted that the initiative which was in partnership with Paystack, introduces a contactless payment system that will take effect from 29 September 2025.
“With this development, payments at FAAN’s revenue points – including airport access gates, car parks, VIP and protocol lounges – will no longer be accepted in cash,” the statement noted.
The statement further said the cashless policy is designed to enhance efficiency, improve revenue assurance, and deliver a better customer experience. Travellers and airport users will now enjoy quicker, safer, and more seamless transactions through the use of secure digital platforms.
“This initiative responds to the growing demand for safe, modern, and transparent payment systems, while ensuring Nigeria’s airports remain aligned with global digital trends,” FAAN noted in the statement.
FAAN added that it had deployed trained brand ambassadors across airport access points and payment terminals to support a smooth transition.
“These personnel will guide passengers through the process, assist with onboarding, demonstrate usage, and answer queries. As part of the rollout, passengers can also obtain a FAAN Go Cashless Card at access gates in Lagos and Abuja airports. Once collected, the cards can be activated and funded immediately online via www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng,” the agency added.
