The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has said the party was not flouting any electoral law regarding early political campaigns.
Basiru said the APC has not commenced any campaign, both at the national and state levels, adding that the party was too busy with governance.
The former lawmaker, who was a guest on Arise Television, said APC does not need to go on any campaign for President Bola Tinubu, adding that the president’s work will speak for him when it is time.
He, however, blamed the opposition for the early political campaigns which the Independent National Electoral Commission has faulted, calling on security agencies to fish out those engaging in such.
The APC national scribe said, “I think it will be very wrong for anybody to say our party is flouting any electoral law. We have not started any campaign. On the contrary, it is the so-called opposition that has been doing that because they don’t have any work. We are very busy with the work of governance. When it comes to ethical governance, our party is the best.
“There is a difference between engaging electoral campaign and political activities. We can continue to engage our people in different activities, that is different from campaigning.
“Our party has not endorsed anybody to conduct a campaign on behalf of the party. The law enforcement agencies should look into the sources from which those are coming.
“As far as I am concerned, a dime has not come out of the cover of the APC nationally and at our state level to embark on any merchandising on behalf of the president. The work of the president will speak for him when it’s time.”
