Five children were among 16 victims killed in a road accident after two vehicles collided at Ode-Omu along Gbongan-Osogbo road on Friday evening.
It was gathered that the incident involved a Lexus car coming from the Gbongan axis and a commercial bus heading towards Gbongan from Osogbo.
Eyewitnesses said the two vehicles collided, and the bus veered off the road somersaulting before it caught fire.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, April 29, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Osun State, Henry Benamesia, disclosed that the accident occurred at about 6 p.m. around the Mat-Oil area at Ode-Omu community on Friday.
Benamesia said the accident was caused by excessive speed and lack of adherence to traffic regulations by the two drivers, adding that the accident involved a commercial vehicle, Mazda, with Reg. No. APP 834 XT, and a Lexus Jeep, with Reg. No. LSR 304 HW.
He further stated that the deceased comprised 11 adults and five children, who were burnt beyond recognition.
