Osun State Government will soon make compulsory the participation of health workers in the fight against coronavirus pandemic.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, made this known while briefing members of the State House of Assembly at Tuesday’s plenary.
Isamotu who appeared alongside the Special Adviser on Public Health, Pharm ‘Siji Olamiju, came to brief the State Assembly on the efforts of the Ministry of Health in fighting the COVID-19 scourge in Osun State.
The Commissioner who lauded Governor Gboyega Oyetola for approving incentives for the frontline health workers in the coronavirus fight, bemoaned the lack of participation of health workers during this pandemic period.
He said “We are surprised at the unwillingness of some health workers to participate in this fight. As health workers, they should know better and it is unacceptable for them to abandon the people at this time.”
“We are going to issue a circular that will make it compulsory for health workers to participate in the COVID-19 fight. I mean, if you draw your salary from the State Government, you must participate.”
The Commissioner however announced that the 3 health workers who earlier tested positive to coronavirus have tested negative but the Ministry is still waiting on the result of their second test before they can be discharged according to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocol.
