Ex Speaker, Etteh lauds 8th House of Rep

A former Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Patricia Etteh has lauded the performance of members of the outgoing 8th Assembly of the House of Representatives.

Etteh made this known today at the valedictory session of the 8th Assembly of House of Representatives in Abuja while speaking on the challenges of being the people’s representative.

The former speaker who was a special guest, in her remarks said all the outgoing and returning members have put in their best by using all means at their disposal to move the country forward.

She later urged both the returning and newly elected members to put in their best to make the 9th Assembly a platform to move Nigeria to greater height.

In her closing remarks, she thanked the leadership of the national assembly for giving the former members the opportunity to address the plenary and later prayed for a better Nigeria.

Etteh who represented Ayedaade/Isokan/Irewole constituency in the House of Representatives, was initially elected in 1999 under the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), but switched to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) when running for re-election in 2003. She was elected to the position of speaker unanimously in June 2007 and remained until she resigned on the 30th of October 2007. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh is the only woman to have held this position in the Nigerian government.
