Police arraign man for burglary, theft

The police on Thursday arraigned a man, Ilesanmi Abiola, before an Ile-Ife Chief Magistrates’ Court for burglary and phone theft.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, while addressing the court, said the accused committed the offence on April 11, 2019 around 9pm at Sabo, Ile-Ife.

He explained that the accused and others yet to be apprehended committed the offence when they broke into the house of one Adebayo Sikiru and stole a laptop and a cash sum of N4,500.

Osanyintuyi also said the accused stole a mobile phone, valued at N20,000, belonging to one Ibiyemi Omoyemi.

He added that the accused further broke into the house of one Olasode Abimbola and stole his Tecno A6 and Itel mobile phones.

Osanyintuyi said, “The offences contravened sections 383, 390 (9), 411, 412 and 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Osun, 2002.”

Ilesanmi pleaded not guilty to the seven counts of conspiracy, intent to commit felony, breaking and stealing, preferred against him by the police.

The defence counsel, Babawale Omodogbe, prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail with a pledge that Ilesanmi would not jump bail.

The magistrate, Muhibah Olatunji, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She subsequently adjourned the matter till May 20 for hearing.
