AIG orders crackdown on destruction of campaign materials in Osun, Oyo

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey Ewah, has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of anyone found destroying, defacing, or unlawfully removing campaign posters, billboards and other campaign materials in Osun and Oyo States.

The order was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olanrewaju Ojedele.

AIG Ewah described the destruction of campaign materials as provocative and unlawful, warning that it is capable of generating unnecessary tension, political hostility and a breakdown of public peace, particularly as political activities intensify in the two states.

He also cautioned political parties, their supporters and other stakeholders against acts of provocation, intimidation, vandalism or violence, and urged them to embrace political tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

The AIG reassured residents of Osun and Oyo States of the commitment of the Zone 11 Command to providing adequate security, protecting lives and property, and maintaining a peaceful environment for all political activities.

He urged members of the public to report any suspected acts of vandalism, political violence or other security threats to the nearest police station.
