The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Osun West Senatorial District, Dr Akinade Ogunbiyi, has appointed former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adejare Bello, as Director-General of his Senatorial Campaign Council.
Bello, who is also the Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was unveiled on Thursday at the inauguration of the council at the Iwo Senatorial Secretariat.
A statement by the media office of the APC candidate, stated that the inauguration brought together over 150 party leaders and stakeholders from across the 10 local government areas of Osun West, in a move aimed at strengthening the party’s campaign structure and building a broad-based mobilisation network ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The Ede-born politician, according to the statement, is expected to provide administrative leadership, strategic coordination and direction for the campaign, and to coordinate the various political and grassroots structures within the district towards electoral success.
Similarly, the Advisory Committee of the Campaign Council was inaugurated. The council was chaired by the APC governorship candidate in the August 15 election, Bola Oyebamiji, alongside other respected party leaders and stakeholders across Osun West.
The committee is expected to provide strategic guidance and promote effective collaboration among party structures and critical stakeholders.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Ogunbiyi expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and party members for their support through prayers, consultations, community engagements and confidence in his candidacy.
He acknowledged the outcome of the last election but expressed optimism that the forthcoming elections present another opportunity for the party to consolidate its structures, strengthen internal unity and work collectively towards victory.
He emphasised the importance of the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the success of the President’s economic reform agenda requires a supportive National Assembly. Securing APC victories in the Senate and House of Representatives, he said, is important to strengthening the President’s legislative support and consolidating the gains of ongoing national reforms.
On his motivation for seeking the Senate seat, Ogunbiyi said his “aspiration is driven by the need for greater development, stronger federal presence and improved opportunities for the people of Osun West.”
While acknowledging the contributions of past senators who represented the district, he maintained that “there remains considerable room for improvement, particularly in attracting federal projects, infrastructure, employment opportunities and development initiatives to communities across the district.”
“My ambition goes beyond occupying public office, the priority is to use the opportunity to strengthen the APC, empower the people and facilitate meaningful development across the senatorial district,” he added.
He described the APC senatorial ticket as a collective mandate belonging to the entire party family, rather than an individual possession, and called on party leaders, members, stakeholders and supporters to take ownership of the campaign.
The newly inaugurated Campaign Council has a broad-based membership comprising APC candidates in Osun West, state party officers, local government party chairmen, local government council chairmen, youth and women leaders, former political office holders and other critical stakeholders.
As part of the campaign’s immediate activities, Ogunbiyi announced that a tour of all 110 wards across the 10 local government areas of Osun West would commence next week.
He described the exercise as an opportunity to reconnect with the electorate, listen directly to their concerns and reaffirm his commitment to their welfare.
He urged party members to approach the forthcoming January 16 and February 6 elections with unity, determination and a shared sense of responsibility, emphasising that the collective objective is to secure victory for President Tinubu, the party’s governorship candidate, and all APC candidates across Osun State.
The campaign reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive participation, peaceful political engagement and issue-based mobilisation.
