The Osun State Amotekun Corps has arrested over 30 persons for violating environmental sanitation laws in Osogbo and its environs.
Amotekun operatives arrested the suspects in the early hours of Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during an enforcement operation in collaboration with environmental sanitation officials.
The operation targeted residents who dump refuse indiscriminately on roads and inside drainage channels, a practice government said obstructs rainwater flow and causes flooding and other environmental hazards.
The enforcement is sequel to the constitution of an Environmental Sanitation Task Force by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, which had earlier warned residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping and comply with approved waste disposal arrangements.
The Corps said it was mandated to work with sanitation officials to apprehend violators.
The offenders have been handed over to environmental sanitation officers for further investigation and prosecution in line with relevant state environmental laws.
The Corps Commander, Adekunle Omoyele, said the exercise was necessary to curb the dangerous practice, especially during the rainy season.
“Indiscriminate waste disposal becomes particularly dangerous during the rainy season, as refuse dumped in drainage channels can obstruct water flow, damage roads and create unhealthy conditions for residents,” Omoyele said.
He said the operation was not to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to enforce compliance and protect communities.
