A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Akin Adeyi, has faulted the deployment of operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps as private security guards to the factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state, Nurudeen Alowonle.
Adeyi, who spoke on Western Spring Television on Tuesday, said the action negates the purpose for which the security outfit was established.
The APC chieftain was reacting to the handing over of four Amotekun operatives to the police over the recent attacks in Ile-Ife and the death of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir.
He said Amotekun was not supposed to be protecting any private individual.
“There was no such duty in the reasons for the establishment of Amotekun. Amotekun was to complement and supplement the efforts of the police in the area of combating crime,” Adeyi said.
“Amotekun were not supposed to even be operating within the town. They were supposed to protect the integrity of our borders, but now, they’ve turned them into private security guards,” he added.
