The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has decried the rising cases of extrajudicial killings across the state.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party said the spate of killings was worrisome.
“It is worrisome that Osun has become a killing field where human lives are wasted. People from other states now dread coming to Osun, as extrajudicial death appears to be the cheapest thing in the state,” the APC said.
The opposition party said the development should give stakeholders in the Osun project sleepless nights.
It cited the killing of two persons on Friday at Oke-Baale area, near Ilesa Garage, Osogbo, by unidentified hoodlums.
“Two persons were reportedly killed in a cruel manner by a group of hoodlums who used guns, machetes, knives and cudgels to snuff life out of the victims in a bizarre manner,” the statement said.
The APC said the insecurity makes nonsense of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates government to protect lives and property.
“The Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration should sit up to ensure that people of the state are not exposed to extrajudicial killings. The stigma this has given the state is worrisome to all right-thinking members of society,” it stated.
The party also charged the police and other security agencies to redouble efforts in securing lives and property.
“Each time there is an extrajudicial killing, it simply translates to the fact that the state government and security agencies have failed in their constitutional responsibility,” the APC added.
