Osun APC must change leadership to move forward – Famurewa

The chairman of Omisore Campaign Organisation, Ajibola Famurewa, has called for a change in the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, arguing that an exclusionary style of leadership and loss of trust among members are responsible for the party’s poor electoral showing.

Famurewa said the party must get a new leader who will be inclusive and carry all members along.

He stated this while appearing on TVC’s Politics Tonight, noting that the current structure where a select caucus picks candidates and appointments has alienated the majority of party members and weakened the APC ahead of future elections.

Using the results from last Saturday’s election to make his case, the former lawmaker noted that the party’s performance was weak across all three senatorial districts despite where leaders and candidates came from.

“In the whole of Osun Central Senatorial District, where we have 10 local governments, and our leaders come from that zone, we won only three local governments. In the West Senatorial District where our candidate comes from, we won three out of 10 in that place also.

“In Osun East Senatorial District, where Senator Omisore comes from, we won five local governments out of 10,” he said.

Famurewa identified lack of trust as the core problem within the party.

“We have a problem in the party. The majority of the members have lost trust in the leadership of the party. We need to restructure our party in the state if we want to win elections in the near future,” he said.
