The All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate for the August 15 election in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has said he spent the last 16 years acquiring practical experience needed to govern the state.
Oyebamiji stated this on Thursday at the palace of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Hastrup, in Illesa, Osun State, during the campaign tour of Ilesa East/Ilesa West/Atakumosa East/Atakumosa West Federal Constituency.
The APC candidate, who spoke about his tenure as the Managing Director of the Osun State Investment Company Limited and the period he worked as the State Commissioner for Finance, also noted how he managed to reduce incidents of boat mishaps when he served as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority.
“I have spent the last 16 years undergoing practical training and acquiring the experience needed to govern Osun State effectively.
“I am happy to tell you that I inaugurated a committee when I was at NIWA to investigate why boats capsize. I went to the Bureau of Statistics to collect data and compare it with what we have overseas. I am happy to tell you that with my effort before leaving the agency, we now have over 80% reduction in boat mishaps to date.
“Initially, I had no intention of leaving banking, but your son, the former governor of the state, invited me to serve at the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL). I did not know then that destiny was preparing me for this moment. When I assumed office, the company was virtually moribund, but I revitalised it.
“You had started a housing scheme in Guzape, Abuja. I approached you because I wanted OSICOL to participate in the project. Today, I am pleased to say that under my leadership, OSICOL acquired 32 four-bedroom flats for Osun State in Guzape. We also acquired properties in Ikoyi, Lagos,” he said.
Speaking on his plans for Ilesa if elected governor, Oyebamiji said the water project initiated by the Rauf Aregbesola administration in the community will be completed.
“I am sure this party will bring prosperity to Ilesa; we have a lot of things to do. Our President knows I am here because he called me to come to Abuja, but I told him that I wanted to see you, Kabiyesi, first, and that he should grant me that opportunity.
“I want to assure you that we will do our best for Ilesa. We won’t deprive you of your entitlement, and also we won’t deprive other monarchs in Ijesaland. Our budget will be based on citizens’ needs. We will give the people what they want, not what we want, like building a bridge where it is not needed,” Oyebamiji said.
