The Osun State Chapter of the African Action Congress, AAC, has raised concerns over rising insecurity and political tension in the state ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday through its Publicity Secretary, Akinlade Semiu Babatunde, the party alleged that the state was witnessing an increase in political thuggery and intimidation.
The AAC referenced the fracas which occurred on Monday at the Old Garage area in Osogbo where armed men attempted to take over the garage and caused panic among traders, drivers and residents.
The party described it as a show of political impunity and alleged that those involved were loyal to a political party.
The AAC also accused the Osun State Police Command of partisanship.
“We therefore demand, in the interest of democracy and public safety, that the Inspector General of Police immediately redeploys the current Commissioner of Police in Osun State. He has lost the confidence of the people,” the statement said.
The party also alleged a plot by the APC-led Federal Government to declare Osun volatile and impose an administrator, a claim it said would fail.
