August 15: Kukah Centre flags Osogbo, Irewole,13 other LGAs as violence risk zones

The Kukah Centre, secretariat of the National Peace Committee, has identified 15 local government areas in Osun State as critical, high or moderate violence-risk zones ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The findings was released during a bilateral stakeholders’ engagement in Osogbo on Friday.

In attendance were representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, ICPC, security agencies and other stakeholders.

The report was part of the Political and Security Context Analysis produced by the Centre’s Election Security Information Hub in Abuja.

According to the report, organised political violence, institutional tensions, electoral offences and information disorder remain critical risks that require collaboration and proactive conflict prevention.

Project Manager of The Kukah Centre, Asabe Ndahi, said Osogbo and Irewole LGAs fall under the critical risk category.

She listed Iwo, Boripe, Ife Central and Ife East among LGAs in the high-risk category.

Ndahi explained that field observers deployed in the last six weeks tracked security incidents across the state and identified flashpoints in the listed areas.

“Based on data we have, we have about 15 local governments that are between critical, high and moderate risk,” she said.
