Osun gov urges UK to impose visa ban on Oyetola, Fadahunsi, Oyebamiji, Wole Oke over violence

Governor Ademola Adeleke, has asked the British government to impose visa bans and economic sanctions on key Osun APC leaders over alleged sponsorship of political violence.

The governor made the request on Monday while meeting with a UK delegation ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, listed the individuals to include Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola; Osun East Senator, Francis Fadahunsi; APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji; and APC Campaign DG, Hon. Wole Oke.

Adeleke accused them and other APC chieftains of encouraging attacks through their allies, which he said has led to killings across Osun.

“I have zero tolerance for violence. I told the Inspector General of Police that even if my son is involved, he should be arrested. We harbour no thugs. The police must arrest any suspect, and there must be strict law enforcement,” he said.

The governor noted that five Accord members have been killed and 15 others critically injured in attacks allegedly by suspected APC thugs since campaigns began.

“We need a deterrent. We seek visa bans against politicians sponsoring killings and attacks. We also want sanctions against security chiefs aiding such anti-democratic acts,” Adeleke told the delegation led by Senior Political Advisor, Wale Adebajo.

“Election is not about bloodshed. Osun deserves peace and the freedom to choose its leaders. There must be consequences for those endangering lives for political gain.”

Adebajo said the UK team was in Osun for pre-election peacebuilding. He assured that Britain supports a peaceful, free and credible poll, and will engage all stakeholders to ensure a calm environment before August 15.
