My administration has done more for Osun Muslims than predecessors – Adeleke

Governor Ademola Adeleke, on Sunday, told the Muslims in Osun State that his administration has delivered more for the Islamic sector than any government before him.

Speaking at an interactive session with the Osun State Muslim Community in Osogbo, the Governor said his government had corrected years of neglect by completing long-abandoned projects and introducing new welfare policies for Muslims in the state.

The Governor listed the near-completion of Osun’s first state Hajj Camp, the construction of a Government House Mosque, and the constitution of the Hajj Welfare Board as key interventions his predecessors failed to implement in 12 years.

“For 12 years before I came, Osun was the only state in the South West without a Hajj Camp. That shame is about to end. My administration is almost completing the camp for our intending pilgrims,” Adeleke said.

He added: “They claimed to be real Muslims, yet there was no mosque at the Government House. We are building one. They refused to constitute the Hajj Welfare Board. We have not only set it up, we have also ensured multiple benefits for our pilgrims.”

In what he described as a historic first, the Governor announced that Osun has become the first state in the South West to formalise the issuance of Islamic marriage certificates.

He also directed that the process be domiciled with the Muslim community under the leadership of the Osun State Muslim Community.

“Just recently, we made Islamic marriage certificates operational in Osun. The process will now be handled by the Muslim community itself. This is to give you ownership and dignity,” he stated.

Governor Adeleke further noted that his cabinet reflects religious balance, with many principal officers and commissioners being Muslims, and assured that Muslims continue to get fair representation in government appointments and projects.

Earlier, Chairman of the Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustapha Olawuyi, said the engagement was part of the community’s initiative to host all governorship candidates to present their programmes.

He commended the Governor for his fairness to all faiths and presented additional requests to the government.
