The Osun State Police Command has arrested three people over an alleged assassination attempt on Hon. Wole Oke, the campaign Director General of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State
The suspects – Olamilekan Oriyomi, Ayotunde Ikupolati Ojo, and Fakinleye Femi- were paraded on Thursday at the command headquarters in Osogbo.
The spokesperson of the command, Abiodun Ojelabi, who paraded the trio on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, noted that the attack occurred after Oke left the palace of the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Jesa, Oba (Dr.) Agunbiade Oke, and headed for a town hall meeting with party members on June 30.
“Shortly after the meeting, suspected political thugs/Eiye Confraternity members, allegedly led by Oriyomi, blocked the convoy’s exit route,” Ojelabi said.
“Oriyomi allegedly produced an English Beretta pistol loaded with four live ammunition and attempted to point it at the Honourable.”
The police said the Divisional Police Officer on the ground spotted the move, subdued the suspect, and prevented the attack.
“During interrogation, Oriyomi told detectives he got the gun from one Busuyi Akinwole Ikupolati, alias ‘Omo-Akin’, who is now on the run.
“He also named other influential persons, and the police say a manhunt is underway,” the statement added.
