Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called for an end to political violence in the state and cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke against what he termed “persistent blackmail and false accusations” over recent security incidents.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola condemned attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, describing them as “unfortunate and unacceptable in a democratic society.”
He stressed that political contests should not degenerate into intimidation, violence or bloodshed, and urged all political actors to embrace peaceful conduct ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Oyetola accused Governor Adeleke of repeatedly making allegations against him and the APC without evidence.
He warned that such actions could heighten political tensions in the state.
“He should stop blackmailing me and stop deceiving the public with false accusations. The people know the truth, and no amount of propaganda can change it,” the minister said.
Oyetola also called on the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies to maintain law and order during the campaign period and guarantee the safety of all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
