2019: Osun APC welcomes Buhari’s declaration, promises victory

By Joseph Akanbi

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its readiness to assiduously work for the success of President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2019 election.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress, declared that he will contest in next year’s election.

However, Nigerian stocks dropped to a three-month low, after President Muhammadu Buhari officially announced he would seek re-election in 2019. Reuters reports that the stock market, which opened on a losing streak after Lafarge Africa announced a surprise 2017 loss, worsened its decline. The equity market fell near 40,000 points.

The news has drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians, as some expressed gladness, while others criticized the president for making such decision despite challenges facing the country. Buhari had defeated Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 to become president, after previously failing to win in three consecutive polls.

Considering Osun as the only South Western state where the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) won in 2011, osun.life took time to sample the opinions of APC leaders within Osun State on the chances of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Leading the pack is Barr. Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (KRAD), a governorship aspirant for the 2018 election, he said ”It is a legitimate ambition which cannot be denied of the President or any other person. I believe the constitution permits it and it is a welcome development.”

Also, Dr. Isiaka Owoade widely referred to as ‘Akunleyan’, a rumoured governorship aspirant said ”I support PMB running again. This will for continuity and consolidation of policies. This timely declaration will also help to stabilize APC. Osun remains a PMB stronghold and we are all ready to support him. It is my belief that the second term will bring out the rewards of most of the economic measures being implemented now. The public will smile.”

A former LG Chairman, Hon. Kunle Ayantoye, in his own remarks, said the declaration for a second term by President Buhari is a welcome development. ”PMB has changed the horizon. Nigeria is on the way back to greatness. The State of Osun is a progressive State and we know who the leaders are.” He later prayed for good health and also promised that the state will vote APC and President Buhari.

Meanwhile, an APC Chieftain and aide to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Remi Ajala, said considering all the factors within the APC in Osun State, it is safe to say President Buhari will retain the state with a massive victory.

Lastly, it is widely believed that the Tinubu-Aregbesola led leadership will determine the direction of the party in Osun State. This was echoed and evident during the 10th Bola Tinubu Colloquium, the former Governor of Lagos State was welcomed with a rousing ovation to the podium. There was a thunderous tune of ”On Your Mandate We Shall Stand” rendered by majority of the guests at the event, political watchers have termed to be a direct message to President Buhari who was present at the event, that they will be going the direction of the APC National Leader in the 2019 elections. Whether he will back Buhari or not, we’ll wait to see event unfolds.
