Nigerian Academy Of Letters Lauds Osun Education Policy

The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) has rated the educational policy of the present Osun State Government as unrivalled and unprecedented.

Professor Olu Obafemi, the President, NAL, made the remarks while leading the national delegation of the academy on a courtesy visit to the Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in respect of the two-day Annual Lecture scheduled to hold in the state university, Osogbo.

Obayemi lauded Governor Rauf Aregbesola for securing a virile future for the state through the provision and promotion of quality and functional education.

He extolled the administration for towing the path to greatness with its unprecedented education policy and programme, saying it had impacted greatly on the lives of the citizenry.

According to the Don, Osun has undoubtedly blazed the trail in the education sector through her numerous innovative and technological inputs designed to advance the sector as well as built to produce virile and versatile future leaders.

He stated that the choice of the state for the 2018 lecture was meant to serve as a mark of honour and recognition of the immense contributions made by the Aregbesola’s administration to revamp the education sector.

He described Osun as one of the states in Nigeria and Africa with standardised education policy not only aimed at repositioning the sector but to place education at the forefront of both human and capital development.

Obafemi said the group was fully aware of the giant strides which Osun has made in the last seven years of the Aregbesola’s administration which he described as ‘unparalleled, commendable and necessity in the education world’.

He affirmed that the state under Governor Aregbesola, has successfully introduced the required innovation and technology to the education sector as being manifested in the success made through the introduction of the tablet of knowledge popularly called “Opon Imo”.

Obafemi held that the proposed lecture titled “Cultural Industries and the Contribution of Humanities to National Development” was conceptualised to enlighten and educate the people on the need to contribute their quotas to national growth and development.

According to him, since we are in a knowledge-driven world and education being the bedrock of genuine development, we are therefore, not in doubt that the present administration in Osun has achieved a pass mark in this regard.

“We are proud of Osun government, not only for turning around the embedded potentials of the state for good, but for building a future that is the desire of all in the education sector.
