OBOPS II: Tuns Farm abandons Osun State Government, calls scheme a scam

By Editor

The flourishing rapport between Tuns Farm and Osun State Government may have ended, this has led to the appointment of Amo Byng Limited as the anchor of the second phase of the Osun Broiler Outgrowers Production Scheme.

Recall that at the launch of the second phase of the programme. Mr. Kolawole Ogini, who is the facilitator of the second phase of the scheme, stated that OBOPS has placed Osun among states with relatively high production in the poultry business in Nigeria.

The agricultural scheme, which was initially established by the Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led administration in December 2011, was designed to create jobs and boost food security.

OBOPS I was operated on a tripartite basis and spurred a joint venture between the State Government, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Tuns Farms Nigeria Ltd and Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN).

TUNS Farm, established and owned by the Osogbo born business mogul, Asiwaju Tunde Badmus is a major agriculture venture deeply rooted in the economy of the State.

Alhaji Badmus, a community leader with strong influence in Osogbo and the muslim community is a major sympathizer of the Aregbesola administration and APC and this rejection may be seen as a crack in the alliance between the duo.

A well informed source within TUNS Farm who spoke under anonymity, said the programme is a total scam. He said we stopped at the end of first cycle after discovering some shady deals. He said the second phase of the scheme would collapse before the end of the year as TUNS Farms still has over 350 farmers with them.

However, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, Mr Kolawole Oginni, the project facilitator explained the choice of Amo Byng as the anchor of the second phase. He said Amo Byng is “big, organized, professional, has the integrity and capacity”. He stressed that there were basic conditions needed to amend in relations to how OBOPS I worked and that Amo Byng complied with the conditions.

Furthermore, he said the non-involvement of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) in the second phase is not a problem as the All Farmers Association is fully onboard. He also stressed that PAN is working with the management of TUNS Farm, so they needed a new and willing partner, which they found in AFAN.
