Osun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria has conferred a ‘Meritorious Gold Award of Excellence in Grassroots Sports Development’ on a sports philanthropist and candidate of the Action Democratic Party for Osun West Senatorial District, Dotun Babayemi.
Babayemi was honoured during the final of the second Prince Dotun Babayemi Youth Football Competition in Iwo.
Rovet FC of Iwo defeated Shakor FC 3-0 in the final match, while Al-Imam FC Iwo defeated TJ FC of Ikire 3-1 in the third-place game. Presenting the award to Babayemi, Osun SWAN chairman, Adeyemi Aboderin, described Babayemi as a thoroughbred sports enthusiast, who has embarked on the development of sports in the rural areas.
He noted that Babayemi had over the years invested in the development of various sporting activities through sponsorships of competitions, especially among rural dwellers in the state.
Responding after receiving the award, Babayemi said the football competition was aimed at discovering hidden talents and nurturing them to stardom.
He described sports as a veritable avenue for job creation. He promised to continue to support any venture that would provide productive and positive engagement for the youth.
