The governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola has said that Ordinary school leaving certificate holders would not be assisted in getting job through the newly launched ‘Osun Job Centre’ initiative.
He made this known at the commissioning of the centre at the Ayegbaju International Market, Osogbo.
“We will concentrate mainly on those with a minimum of OND as school leaving certificate holders may be thinking of approaching the centre. I can’t guarantee you of any assistance for I will only advice you to further in your education rather than coming to us with O’level,” he enthused.
The Governor also said that the newly launched Osun Job Centre was a replica of what the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo set up in Lagos state to banish unemployment in the country.
Aregbesola said the job centre, which would serve as an interface between those who want job and those who wish to employ was perceived by his administration months before the April, 2007 election.
He said, ” The difference between what Awolowo did and our O-Jobs initiative is that we are applying technology in the process as a way of upscaling.
Aregbesola also said the job centre was not put in place to place to create a pathway to working with state government emphasising that those who were already working with the government could also utilise the service of the centre if not satisfied with the current job.
He however boasted, that the state, which is currently occupying the 7th position on the Gross Domestic Product scale of the country, has the lowest unemployment and crime rate in the country.
Also, the lead consultant of the centre, Mrs. Mobolaji Akande, said the initiative was aimed at reducing the unemployment rate in the state.
Akande also said the job centre would serve as a meeting point for job seekers and employers of labour from within and outside the state, She said ICT training and interview techniques development were also part of the programme.
According to her, we accommodate both artisans and graduates in this initiative and no fewer than 3000 participant would be trained at no cost.
