Ilobu seeks Osun govt takeover of Lagbaja hospital

Ilobu community, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State, has proposed that the State Government take over and affiliate the hospital, facilitated by the late former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

This was disclosed on Saturday by the Ilobu-Asake Development Union (IDU) at a press conference marking the 34th Ilobu Day celebration.

The IDU said the late COAS built the hospital for the community before his death in 2024.

Speaking at the event, the President of the IDU, Prof. Olufemi Saibu, said the community is ready to partner with the Osun State Government and the Osun State University Teaching Hospital to ensure effective management of the facility and improve access to specialised healthcare for residents.

He disclosed that the community, in collaboration with the Lagbaja family, has finalised plans for the affiliation to give the hospital the institutional and professional capacity required to serve Ilobu and neighbouring communities.

“We realised that managing such a specialised medical facility independently might be beyond our capacity. Therefore, in collaboration with the Lagbaja family, we engaged the state government so they can at least take that hospital up and affiliate it with the appropriate university teaching hospital,” Saibu said.

He explained that the union has adopted a proactive approach to development by identifying pressing needs and presenting practical solutions, rather than resorting to protests and confrontations.

Saibu also acknowledged the contributions of prominent Ilobu indigenes and members of the diaspora, saying their collective support has remained instrumental to the community’s development.

He commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for responding positively to some of the community’s requests, particularly on the provision of land and other properties for development projects.
